American Guild® is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to expanding green building practices and education through its credit system – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building System. The USGBC instituted its LEED Green Building System as a voluntary consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies in several key areas, such as sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection and indoor environmental quality. Since its introduction, it has become the top choice for all architects, builders and interior designers who construct using green building practices, and a key attribute of our flooring. American Guild Hardwood Flooring qualifies for the following LEED credit: EQ 4.4 – Low-emitting Materials. American Guild also has LEED AP staff to help with any LEED consulting.
All American Guild Hardwood Flooring, in accordance with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), is CARB2-certified, made with a formaldehyde-free adhesive. With the world’s strictest formaldehyde emission standard for composite wood products in place, our hardwood top layer and plywood substrate are in full compliance and do not contain cheap adhesives that put our customers at risk. To further ensure our compliance, we have an independent lab test and certify our floors as safe.
The Lacey Act (16 U.S.C. 3371-3378) is a century-old piece of legislation that focuses on the illegal commercial transportation of wildlife and non-native species and has since been extended to address the global illegal logging trade. It requires all importers to declare the species and country of origin of any wood product. The Lacey Act makes it unlawful to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire or purchase in interstate or foreign commerce any wood that comes from illegally logged trees. The Lacey Act is intended to protect forests worldwide from deforestation and prevent illegitimate wood products from entering the United States. In support, all American Guild Hardwood Flooring fully abides by the Lacey Act to ensure our customers the best quality wood flooring with environmentally friendly measures.
